Description
When traffic levels on the North British Railway increased at the end of the 19th century, the Locomotive Superintendent Matthew Holmes produced forty new 0-6-0 tank locomotives for short distance goods and shunting duties that were introduced in 1901. The locomotives continued to be used for transfer goods, mineral trip workings, banking, and heavy yard shunting during L&NER ownership and thirty-nine locomotives survived into British Railways’ use until their duties were handed over to diesel shunters, the last J83 being withdrawn in 1962.

About the LNER Class J83 No. 8472
I bought the J83 today @ Appleyards in Buxton (27/06/2019), It pulls well (5 Carriages is max I think (before it starts to struggle)) - it is a nice Loco apart from there is no Cab detail - it just basically 6 wheels, a motor (you can see the motor just by looking into the cab!!!) & a shell!!!
